REIN & NREA held a Race Hate Crime Conference on 30th November 2006 at Stratford Circus.
The conference was aimed at practitioners in the field of equality and diversity and provided an opportunity to discuss practices and initiatives to tackle race hate crime and repeat victimisation in the borough.
Mr Tarique Ghaffur, Assistant Commissioner Metropolitan Police Service gave a keynote speech on community policing on race hate crime , its impact on our communities and the role of the police in supporting effective delivery of service.

The Newham Race Equality Alliance (NREA) held an Islamophobia Meeting on 1st November 2006 at East Ham Town Hall.
This was an important subject for Newham with over 24% of its population being Muslims.
A drama piece was performed by Newham Youth Parliament which explored some of the current issues on Islam which have been in the headlines recently.
The drama was followed by an Open Debate which gave the community and the public the opportunity to raise issues of concern.
